Employees at a Bob’s Big Boy are leading a countywide effort to raise money for the 21-month-old daughter of a waitress there who was fatally shot just minutes after leaving work.

All of the Bob’s Big Boy restaurants in Orange County are involved in the fund-raiser, which began a few days after Davis’ death on Jan. 5.

The Huntington Beach Bob’s has raised at least $200 in donations from customers and employees, and other locations report similar amounts.

Meanwhile, the suspect in the killing, Brian Keith Framstead, Davis’ ex-boyfriend and the father of the girl, remained in critical condition at a San Bernardino hospital Wednesday.

Framstead suffered third-degree burns over much of his body after he set himself on fire inside his car as police pursued him near Victorville.

The 29-year-old Inglewood resident allegedly shot Davis in the face after the two had had an argument. Police believe Framstead had harassed Davis after she broke off their relationship.

The couple’s child is staying with Davis’ mother.

She will receive half the proceeds from the fund-raiser in cash and half in U.S. Savings Bonds, said Elliot Sousa, a manager at the Huntington Beach Bob’s.

“We wanted to give some of the money now because they need it,” Sousa said. “But we wanted to save some for her future too.”

Most Bob’s Big Boys have conducted the fund-raiser by word of mouth, while others have displayed information about her death and a basket for customers to place money in.

Bob’s managers report that most donations have come from employees and regular customers.

“We’re doing great. We’ve got the customers involved and everything,” said Jerri Brock, manager of a Bob’s in Irvine.

In one day, her restaurant collected $70 for Davis’ child.

“People have been very generous,” she said.
