Don’t be surprised if Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl,” No. 2 on the Billboard pop album chart, is No. 1 next week. Already a 4-million seller, the album is getting a boost from another hit single, “Opposites Attract,” which vaulted eight rungs to No. 8 and is almost certain to climb to the top in the next few weeks. The reason her album has been on the chart for a year-and-a-half is a succession of hit singles have kept it alive. That other dance-music diva, Janet Jackson, is hot on Abdul’s heels. Bubbling under the Top 10: Bobby Brown’s “Dance . . . Ya Know It!” (No. 12) and Quincy Jones’ “Back on the Block” (No. 13).

* Dance fans have pushed Technotronic’s single “Pump Up the Jam” up to No. 2 on the pop singles chart. The single is propelling the group’s album, also called “Pump Up the Jam,” up the pop album chart. This week the album jumped nine places to No. 28.
