Gardening : Gladiolus Society Bulb Sale Slated Sunday

Share

The date for the Southern California Gladiolus Society’s bulb sale was incorrect in last Saturday’s View Section. Indeed, the sale is this Sunday in the lecture hall of the Los Angeles Arboretum, 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia. The society has been sponsoring this annual bulb sale for 25 years.

According to gardeners who specialize in gladiolus, persons wanting spring or summer blooms can plant the bulbs from now through April in most of Southern California. It takes an average of about 85 days after bulbs are planted for the plants to flower. Bulbs should be planted about 6 inches deep and spaced about 6 inches apart. Soil should be kept moist, but not soggy.

This type of advice is what visitors to the arboretum can expect from members of the gladiolus society during the Sunday sale, which begins at 9 a.m. and runs until the bulbs are sold out, about 4:30 p.m.
