Bearish Ways: Bart, the four-footed star of the critically acclaimed film “The Bear” and Hollywood’s most sought-after Kodiak, recently was filmed for the ABC Western series “The Young Riders.” Bart’s TV debut is scheduled to air Feb. 8 but, meanwhile, the furry guy has emerged as a temperamental actor. The 1,800-pound, 9-foot Kodiak could only work during the “cool” hours of the day and demanded Hawaiian punch, fresh salmon and figs to munch on. Also, the women on the set were warned not to wear any perfume in his presence so as not to arouse the usually mild-tempered Bart, who is now 13 years old and began his film-acting career at age 2. His credits include “Clan of the Cave Bear” with Daryl Hannah and “The Great Outdoors” with Dan Aykroyd. In this episode, series regular Stephen Baldwin, who plays William F. Cody, aids a wounded mountain man ambushed by trappers. The dying mountain man asks Cody to protect Bart, the bear he raised from a cub. Cody grants the man his dying wishes and develops an affection for the bear.
