Share

Thousands of schoolchildren in the Saddleback Valley are expected to participate in the annual Mission Viejo Arts for Youth series this month.

The program will bring local performing artists onto school campuses throughout the area as well as sending students to concert and dance venues in Orange County.

Mission Viejo and Aliso Viejo elementary schoolchildren in kindergarten through the third grade will see “Rumpelstiltskin” performed by the Lilliput players. Students in higher grades will experience a variety of dances by several area dance companies.

Junior high school students will hear a jazz concert by the Bobby Medina Jazz Quintet, and high school students are scheduled to attend a performance of “A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream” at the South Coast Repertory Theatre.

Sixth-grade students will attend the Los Angeles Ballet Theater’s performance of “The Little Prince” at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

The arts program will conclude March 20 with Mission Viejo’s spring concert, featuring choirs from three high schools and the Saddleback College symphony and chorus.

Ticket proceeds from the evening concert will be donated to music programs in the Saddleback Valley school districts.

The arts program, sponsored by the Mission Viejo Co., is in its fourth year.
