New Chief for N.Y. Police

NEW YORK —
Former Houston Police Chief Lee Brown was sworn in Monday as New York’s 36th police commissioner. Brown said: “I will pledge my most earnest and most diligent effort in lessening the impact of drugs on all the city’s neighborhoods.” He also acknowledged the city’s budget crisis, saying it may not be possible to expand the force for some time.
