Aeroflot Orders Airbus Jets: The Soviet carrier Aeroflot, in its first purchase of Western-built passenger jets, has ordered five Airbus Industrie A310 aircraft in a deal valued at $350 million. Alexander Aksenov, vice minister for Soviet civil aviation, said Airbus, a consortium of four European companies, had beaten out Boeing Co. and McDonnell Douglas Corp. to get the Aeroflot order, which includes options on five additional jets. Aeroflot, the world’s largest airline, will pay $70 million for each of the 250-seat aircraft, including spare parts.
