Union Carbide Corp.: The chemical company said fourth-quarter profit plunged 71% to $47 million, partly because of shutdown and personnel costs resulting from the restructuring of its industrial gas subsidiary. The Danbury, Conn., company said the results included a $56-million after-tax charge associated with the restructuring. Sales for the 1989 period were down 3% to $2.1 billion. For the full year, profit fell 13% to $662 million and sales rose 5% to $8.74 billion.
