It’s a Steal: Thief: Drives Through Dealer’s Window

A car thief sneaked into the showroom of a downtown Los Angeles car dealership, revved up an expensive car, smashed it through the plate glass window and was last seen heading for the Harbor Freeway, authorities said Friday.

An expensive Mercedes Benz or customized Nissan costing as much as $40,000 was missing from the showroom of Downtown L.A. Motors at 598 W. 18th St., Lt. Paul Pesqueira said. An inventory in progress was the reason for the uncertainty over the type of car.

The break-in occurred after 11 p.m. Thursday. “He got into a new car in the showroom, drove through the front glass sliding door and over the curb,” Pesqueira said.
