School Raises $800 for Funeral of Boy Hit by Car
A Florence area elementary school has collected $800 to help pay for the funeral of a 7-year-old student who was killed Tuesday when an allegedly drunk driver ran over him, his mother and five other children on a sidewalk.
Officials at Miramonte Elementary School said Friday that at least 20 more pledges are expected to arrive in the mail next week.
The father of Pedro Hernandez told a nun at Presentation Catholic Church that he feared his son would be cremated because he could not afford a funeral. The school set up a fund Thursday after a flood of calls from people who read the father’s comments and wanted to make a donation.
Michael Repp, the school’s assistant principal, said contributions can be made to the Miramonte Student Body Fund, 1400 E. 68th St., Los Angeles, 90001.
