After years of playing hard-to-get with the press, Creative Artists Agency has now got an in-house media liaison.

Steve Rivers, who’s spent the past 12 years working with Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden’s Campaign for Economic Democracy, recently joined CAA to handle media and public affairs.

Rivers says his hiring has nothing to do with the recent rift between CAA chief Michael Ovitz and screenwriter Joe Eszterhas. (Correspondence regarding Ovitz’s alleged threats against Eszterhas for jumping to another agency became embarrassingly public late last year.)

Rivers maintains that CAA was looking for a media liaison for well over a year, and the usually press-shy Ovitz even called Outtakes to echo that sentiment, adding: “Steve will work with us on charitable and political activities, as well as public affairs and media relations. . . . Steve will be accessible to everyone.”
