United States International University is continuing to ask some employees to delay cashing their paychecks, university spokeswoman Anne Slavicek said Monday.

On Friday, the school asked about 35 salaried employees to delay picking up their checks after a deal to sell the university’s interests in KUSI-TV (Channel 51) fell through. The financially troubled school wants to sell the station to raise funds.

Of the university’s 300 salaried employees, only administrators making more than $40,000 a year were asked to not cash their paychecks, according to Dennis Agle, the university’s business manager.

“Things have not changed,” Slavicek said Monday. “We’re in the same mode. Some employees have been asked if they could wait to cash their paychecks.” Employees who need cash, however, can cash their checks, she said.
