From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Former Lt. Gov. Mike Curb has agreed to pay a $2,000 fine for failing to report last-minute contributions of $125,000 to his unsuccessful 1986 campaign, the state’s political watchdog agency reported. The fine was part of a settlement to be approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission at its Feb. 6 meeting. Commission documents say Curb’s campaign committee failed to report $50,000 in contributions each from Patrick Crane and Rich Snyder and a $25,000 donation from William Hayes. The documents said that, in the hectic final days of the $4-million campaign, the donations were inadvertently not reported. Curb, a Republican, served as lieutenant governor from 1979 to 1983. He lost the 1982 gubernatorial primary to Gov. George Deukmejian. Democratic Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy defeated Curb in his 1986 bid to recapture his old job.
