Covina : 2 Honored for Saving Mom

Share

Two Covina children who telephoned 911 to get help after their mother had a heart attack were honored Wednesday for saving her life.

In December, Candice Chesterton, 5, dialed 911 when she found her mother, Frances, lying on the floor after a heart attack, face down and barely breathing. When the dispatcher came on the line, brother Ernest Joseph Chesterton, 3, said: “Mommy can’t breathe--she’s on the floor.”

The award came at a student assembly at Covina Christian School. The children were named heroes and each was given $250 in savings bonds by the residential security firm Westec.

Westec, based in Irvine, has given heroism awards to 11 other Southern California children since starting the program last year to recognize youths who save lives or prevent injury by quick action in emergencies.
