UC Irvine has received three grants totaling more than half a million dollars for the study of biology, medicine and drama, school officials announced.

Included among the donations is the largest ever received by the School of Fine Arts--a $347,000 bequest from the estate of Helene Travers Santley of Oceanside. The money is to go toward supporting aspiring young actors and actresses at UCI productions in Hollywood and New York.

A $121,849 gift from the Thomas Henry Curtis Fund, administered in England, is earmarked for neurobiology seminars and research workshops at UCI’s Bonney Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory.

The third grant of $65,606, from the estate of Adeline M. Rasmussen of Santa Cruz for the study of cancer and human blindness, will fund graduate student research at the UCI College of Medicine and School of Biological Sciences.

The UC Board of Regents allocated the three donations to UC Irvine earlier this month after hearing competing proposals from several state campuses.
