Bolar Pharmaceutical Co. Inc., under fire for alleged falsification of test data supplied to government regulators, announced Wednesday that it is recalling its generic version of the widely prescribed hypertension drug Dyazide.

Bolar said in a news release that it is recalling its generic Dyazide--a combination of triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide--and another drug, because “the products’ bioequivalence cannot be assured in light of serious questions concerning the accuracy and reliability of the documentation” used to support their approval.

The second drug being recalled is Bolar’s 100-milligram, extended-release phenytoin sodium capsules, a generic version of Parke-Davis’ Dilantin, which is prescribed to prevent epileptic seizures. Bolar stopped distributing the capsules in December.

The Food and Drug Administration said that patients taking either of the Bolar products “should consult their physicians, and are urged not to stop taking either medication abruptly.”
