A routine traffic stop lead to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer in Mission Viejo and the seizure of cocaine, marijuana, a handgun, a crossbow and two safes containing cash, authorities said today.

The 18-year-old male driver was arrested for possession of cocaine, methamphetamines and marijuana for sale after being stopped Thursday night on the San Diego Freeway just north of Crown Valley Parkway for traveling at speeds in excess of 85 m.p.h., the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities said a search of the vehicle turned up several ounces of cocaine and methamphetamines prepackaged into bindles, two pounds of marijuana, a pistol, a stun gun, a crossbow, several scales and numerous plastic bags.

Officers also found more than $1,200 in cash, ledgers, a directory with phone numbers, two portable safes that the driver told police contained more cash, and a pager “that went off constantly throughout the arrest,” a CHP spokesman said.

Police declined to identify the suspect pending completion of the investigation.
