The news is that dog bites man less often--at least in Orange County. Between fiscal year 1986-87 and 1988-89, there were 17% fewer dog bites here. Also, the bites per 1,000 licensed dogs dropped from 25.5 to 21.8 to 20.6.

Fiscal year 1986-87: 3,996 bites and 156,730 licensed dogs

Fiscal year 1987-88: 3,405 bites and 156,323 licensed dogs

Fiscal year 1988-89: 3,312 bites and 160,983 licensed dogs
