Health Care Gifts Are Just Hand-Me-Downs

NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans Health Department won’t need to buy surgical gloves until 1995 or so, thanks to a 400,000-pair gift from an importer.
Suzy Shay of Direct China Trade Ltd. said $48,000 worth of latex gloves arrived from China too late for the customer for whom she had ordered them.
Shay decided to donate the gloves to the city rather than find another buyer.
