Batter Up--Again

Following a barrage of pictures about men on the baseball diamond, Hollywood’s going to make one about women who play the game. Penny Marshall will exec produce “A League of Their Own,” based on the real-life All American Girls Professional Baseball League, which played from 1942-53.

For 20th Century Fox, “League” will roll in the Midwest in June, with David Anspaugh (“Hoosiers”) directing. Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandell (“Parenthood”) scripted.

Set in the ‘40s, the story involves the league’s origin--during the man-shortage of World War II--and focuses on the lives of two team members: a young mother whose husband is off fighting, and her teen-age sister.
