CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Tax Suggested for Airport Projects
The chairwoman of the California Commission on Aviation and Airports has suggested an airline passenger tax of up to $1 per ticket to fund airport improvements. Unveiling the commission’s annual report to Congress at a press conference in Sacramento, Brooke Knapp said the state needs to develop a “permanent source of funding” for airports and that she personally favored the passenger tax as an option. In addition, Knapp’s commission is supporting legislation that would remove the airlines’ 2-cents-per-gallon fuel tax exemption.
