West Hollywood : Parking Lot Plan Rejected

Share

The City Council has rejected a proposal to allow Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to use an existing hospital-owned parking lot for employee parking for five years.

By a 3-2 vote, the council decided against issuing a temporary-use permit for the property at 365 N. San Vicente Blvd.

In the past, the City Council rejected requests by the lot’s previous owners, Lorraine Howell and Arthur Lawrence, to use the property for parking for periods longer than a few weeks.

Cedars had proposed to pay for landscaping improvement and fencing of the parking lot if given a five-year temporary-use permit.

An attorney for Lawrence and Howell said they have brought a legal action against Cedars-Sinai, alleging that the hospital improperly foreclosed on the property. Attorney Dennis Manke said his clients are seeking damages and a return of the property.

Council members appeared to be uneasy over the legal matters, and some said they were uncomfortable about approving the use for the new owners when such permits had been denied in the past.

Cedars-Sinai officials are reworking the proposal, said Councilman Paul Koretz.
