Airline Fuel Surcharge Postponed: Several major U.S. airlines are postponing for a week special fuel surcharges originally due to take effect today. United Airlines, leading the move, said it deferred the surcharges “to keep its fare levels fully competitive with all major carriers.” Spokesmen for American Airlines, Trans World Airlines and Northwest Airlines said those carriers were matching United’s initiative. The surcharges--$6 for a one-way ticket and $12 round trip for travel within the United States--will be deferred until Feb. 16.
