From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A 20-year-old man was found guilty of second-degree murder in the December, 1988, freeway shooting death of a man driving home from an anniversary dinner party. An Alameda County Superior Court jury deliberated for 1 1/2 days before convicting Darryl Poole, who sat quietly with his head down as the verdict was read. Poole faces a possible sentence of 18 years to life in prison. Lawrence Ellingsen, 53, and his wife were returning to their home in Newark after celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary in San Francisco when the shooting occurred along Interstate 880. Ellingsen, a computer analyst, died instantly from a bullet that entered the rear window and struck him in the head.
