747 Returns to Tokyo

TOKYO —
A United Air Lines jet bound for San Francisco with 398 passengers and 18 crew made an emergency landing at Tokyo’s Narita airport Thursday after the crew heard pounding noises, an airport official said. He said the Boeing 747 had just taken off when the pilot heard the noises and turned back.
