Council Votes to Give Night Stalker Rewards

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Friday to give $25,000 in rewards to 14 people instrumental in the 1985 capture of Richard Ramirez, who was convicted last year in the string of Night Stalker murders.

Ramirez, who faces a second murder trial in San Francisco, was convicted Sept. 20 of 13 murders and has been sentenced to death for a series of crimes that terrorized Southern California in 1985.

If Mayor Tom Bradley signs the measure, it will mark the last of more than $71,000 in rewards to be approved by local and state officials to citizens in both Northern and Southern California who helped authorities identify and arrest the self-avowed devil worshiper in August, 1985.
