Teachers Don’t Like Inglewood’s Offer

The Inglewood Unified School District offered its teachers union a retroactive 2.7% pay increase for the 1988-’89 school year and 2.5% for 1989-’90 in contract talks last week.
Cheryl Bell, president of the Inglewood Teachers Assn., said teachers are seeking 14% for 1988-’89 and 10% for 1989-’90. “There is a big gulf and it’s widening,” she said.
School board President Larry Aubry said he is optimistic that the two sides will work out their differences once the union realizes the district’s budget woes.
“This is what the budget will stand without going into a deficit,” he said.
