SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : 13 Students Named to All-Star Band
Thirteen area students were named recently to a Southern Californian all-star team for school band members.
The students from Capistrano Unified School District junior and senior high schools were selected from more 500 band members from Bakersfield to San Diego to join the All-Southern California High School Honor Band and Orchestra, a district spokesman said.
The student musicians attended tryouts in the Los Angeles area this past December, and the winners from area high schools performed this month at the Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.
“This year’s performance was the finest I’ve ever heard,” said Austin Buffum, district music coordinator. “By selecting the top-notch musicians from Southern California,” he said, “(the performance was) at a level higher than any individual school could perform.” Students selected from Niguel Hills Junior High School were Emily Zarins, Jeff Dickinson, Sarah Kochendorfer, Daniel Dupuis and Matt Kovich.
Dana Hills High School band members included Neal Corcoran, Michelle Dupuis, Natalie Kallen, Leslie Lundregn, Amy Pearce and Tas Toochinda. Matt Koutroulis and Scott Sorg were selected from San Clemente High School.
