Japan’s Takeyuki Nakayama, running in his first marathon since hurting an ankle in last April’s Boston Marathon, beat Ireland’s John Treacy and Ethiopia’s Belayneh Dinsamo in the Tokyo International Marathon. Nakayama ran alone most of the way, easing up over the last seven miles, and finished the course in 2 hours 10 minutes 57 seconds.
