He Introduces It, She Votes Yea, It’s Unanimous: Former Sen. J. William Fulbright, the 84-year-old Arkansas Democrat, will marry Harriett Mayor on March 10. Mayor, 56 directs a scholarship foundation in Washington. “We talk about world affairs. That’s what got us together, I guess,” Mayor said Saturday. Fulbright said he called one morning several weeks ago to propose.

Quick Return: Ivan Lendl, the world’s No. 1 tennis player, said Saturday in Milan, Italy, he can go home again--temporarily. He said he will play an exhibition match in Czechoslovakia in March, but then beat it back to the U.S. He said recent upheavals in his homeland motivated him to return for the first time in six years. But not for good: “I am married to an American citizen now, and I hope to become an American citizen in a couple of years.”

Scratch-Off: Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan Jr. got a laugh, but he startled observers in Albuquerque, N.M., when he began scratching at a rock beside an ancient Indian drawing. The petroglyph etchings are on volcanic rock, and Lujan was in town Friday to push the site as a possible national monument. “It was a humorous incident, and he didn’t do any damage. He was just seeing how the (natural) coating on the rock . . . was made,” said Ike Eastvold, president of Friends of the Albuquerque Petroglyphs.

Sixties Redux: When it comes to the statement, “Don’t trust anyone over 30,” it turns out you can’t trust reporters. Sixties activist Abbie Hoffman, who died in April last year, made it the slogan of the ‘60s. Now it seems Abbie did not say it like that. “What he really said was, ‘Don’t trust anyone over 30--or under 30, for that matter.’ I know. I was there,” Hoffman comrade Mike Gold told St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Elaine Viets. How did it lose half its meaning? “The reporters were more than happy to listen to the first half of the sentence. They ignored the rest.”
