A man who lost control of his car on the Santa Ana Freeway died today after he was thrown from the vehicle and it rolled on top of him, authorities said.

Massoud Mansouri, 37, of Playa del Rey was traveling south on the freeway at more than 100 m.p.h. and using all lanes of traffic when he lost control of his 1989 BMW about 1:25 a.m. today, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Angel Johnson said.

Mansouri hit a traffic sign on the right shoulder just south of the 1st Street off-ramp, “sending his car 60 feet into the air,” Johnson said. The car landed near the embankment and struck a light pole, ejecting Mansouri, she said.

The vehicle then rolled down the embankment and on top of Mansouri, Johnson said.

Mansouri was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he died of his injuries, a hospital spokesman said.
