West Los Angeles : Bikeway Grant Approved

A committee of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission has approved a $100,000 grant for the West L.A. Veloway project, a plan to build an elevated bikeway to UCLA and Westwood Village.

If the grant is approved by the full commission, as expected, it will be used to pay engineering costs for the six-lane bicycle freeway, said Ryan Snyder, executive director of the group spearheading the project. UCLA and the city transportation department have already committed $213,000.

Snyder said the Los Angeles Department of Public Works will be the lead agency for the engineering and construction phases of the two-mile bikeway that is projected to carry more than 4,000 riders a day.
