From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports
PG&E; Fined for Diablo Canyon Violation: Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will pay a $50,000 fine and accept a notice of violation from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as the result of an inspection that turned up problems with the sumps, or floor drains, in the containment building at its Diablo Canyon nuclear plant. The sumps, which would help cool the reactor in an emergency, did not meet NRC specifications and contained debris. The plant has previously been cited for poor communication among its engineers.
