Jack Frost Does His Thing in Southland

As morning temperatures dipped below the freezing mark over the last two days in the Los Angeles area, the landscape at some high elevations has taken on an Arctic appearance. Glassy icicles sheathed flowers and shrubbery atop Mt. Hollywood in Griffith Park. At lower climes, coats were still de rigeur for protection against temperatures that dropped into the high 30s overnight. Near downtown, the morning low was 39 degrees. A .ow of 24 degrees was recorded atop Mt. Wilson, 16 degrees at Lancaster and 9 degrees at Bishop. While there were predictions of warming for the next few days, with local highs expected to reach new 60, a new storm system may skirt parts of Southern California over the weekend, bringing high clouds and a 20% chance of rain tonight and Saturday.
