Adolph Coors Co.: The Golden, Colo., brewer’s 1989 net income plunged 72% from 1988 to $13.2 million. Sales totaled a record $1.8 billion, up 16%. In the fourth quarter, the firm posted a loss of $20 million, contrasted with earnings of $2.3 million a year earlier. Sales totaled a record $431 million, a gain of 22%. The profit results were attributed to a $41.7-million pretax charge for asset writedowns related to the abandonment and disposition of properties in several businesses.
