Pharmacist Offered Dose of Hope, Humor, Charity

We’re certain everyone that read Edmund Newton’s piece on Sam Perlman’s Midtown Pharmacy (Times, Feb. 11) and knows Sam, laments the fact that he will not be at his post anymore to help us.

Newton’s excellent writing captured many of Sam’s sterling qualities but you would have to be in his company far longer than a reporter has time to understand what he means to all of us that have had the pleasure of knowing him for so many years.

Sam could cheer you up. He was a good adviser and trustworthy. You went out of your way to see him, even if you didn’t need anything because you knew that after a few minutes with Sam everything seemed right with the world. Sam didn’t just sell medicine. He dispensed hope and charity laced with generous dollops of humor.

Many people are sad to lose Sam. He’s a wonderful man. Whenever we saw him we always came away from the visit richer than when we walked in.
