PACIFIC 10 : Brandon Helps Oregon Past Washington, 58-53

Terrell Brandon of Oregon made two free throws with 1:18 left and the Ducks went on to defeat Washington, 58-53, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Saturday at Seattle.

Brandon’s free throws put the Ducks ahead, 54-53, then the 5-11 sophomore guard hit a 15-foot jumper with 16 seconds remaining.

Teammate Keith Reynolds converted two free throws with two seconds left to complete the scoring.

Brandon had 15 of his 18 points in the second half, with seven of his second-half points coming from the free-throw line.

Oregon held an 18-6 advantage from the line in the second half.

The Ducks improved to 13-10 overall and 8-6 in Pacific 10 play. Washington is 10-14 and 4-11.

Reynolds led all scorers with 19 points, including six-of-six shooting from the free-throw line. Kevin Mixon finished with 10 points.

Doug Meekins scored 16 points to pace the Huskies, who also got 12 points from Brent Merrittand 10 from Eldridge Recasner.

Meekins and Merritt combined to score Washington’s first 15 points of the second half, helping the Huskies take their largest advantage at 38-29 with 14:25 left in the game.

Brandon, with five points, led a surge that brought Oregon two points at 39-37. The Ducks took the lead 44-43 three minutes later on a 17-foot jumper by Reynolds with 9:12 remaining.
