No Sororities--No Alternative

Share

I was disturbed with Beth Ann Krier’s article “Frat Row: At Middlebury College, Sexism Puts Traditional Greek Houses on the Ropes” (Feb. 9).

Krier buried what I feel was an important fact of the story in paragraph four, in parentheses no less: that Middlebury has no sororities, therefore no alternative for women students.

If a college offers no alternative for women, then the campus itself could be accused of sexism. Instead of pressuring fraternities to admit women, the university should encourage the women to organize sororities and perhaps even assist them in doing so.
