IRS Investigating Foreign Companies: Federal tax officials are using new auditing powers to investigate American subsidiaries of Japanese companies that they suspect have underpaid corporate income taxes by billions of dollars, the New York Times reported. The new law gives the IRS broad authority to assess taxes on foreign-owned firms that fail to promptly comply with requests for records or testimony.
