SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Beautification Inc. Backs Bond Measure

Share

San Juan Beautiful Inc. has endorsed Measure D, the city’s $21-million open space bond initiative on the April 10 special ballot.

“It is appropriate for our organization to stand behind a campaign which shares our goals,” said Marge Baumgartner, president of the 40-member group. San Juan Beautiful Inc. monitors local issues that affect the rural atmosphere of the city and raises funds for beautification projects.

If the measure is approved--and it requires a two-thirds margin--the city would seek to purchase 140 acres to preserve as open space or set aside for athletic fields, a senior center or trails.

The cost to the average homeowner would be $5.50 a month. Costs for mobile home owners would range from 16 cents to $2.29 a month.

The biggest section of property involved, 120 acres, is at the intersection of Camino Capistrano and Junipero Serra Road.

The additional 20 acres are part of a 56-acre parcel owned by Shig Kinoshita near the intersection of Camino del Avion and Alipaz Street.

The Friends of Historic San Juan and the Capistrano Bay Area League of Women Voters have also endorsed the bond initiative.
