A defective underground switch left 4,600 customers in Rancho Penasquitos without electrical power for several hours Tuesday morning, a San Diego Gas & Electric spokesman reported.
Spokesman Fred Vaughn said the power switch failed and caused the blackout from 4:09 a.m. to 7 a.m. Power was restored to most customers by 7 a.m., but several hundred did not receive power until 11:09 a.m., when an underground branch line was repaired.
