Long Beach : Gay Activists to Organize Teen Counseling Program
- Share via
A local gay activist group will meet tonight to begin organizing a school counseling program for homosexual teen-agers.
The Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. to work on a proposal patterned after Project 10, a program in the Los Angeles Unified School District that provides counseling and information to lesbian and gay students.
A task force with members from Lambda and other groups will draw up the proposal and present it to the Long Beach school board, whose members responded cautiously last fall when Lambda first announced its plan. At the time, school board members said they would look at the proposal, but no one endorsed it.
Lambda officials plan to organize a campaign to educate the public and obtain endorsements from community groups and organizations. Tonight’s meeting will be held at Metropolitan Community Church, 1231 Locust Ave.
