Boy, 2, Dies After Father Accidentally Shoots Him
A 2-year-old Carson boy has died from a head wound he suffered earlier in the week when his father’s gun accidentally discharged during cleaning, authorities said.
Hector Tapia was injured at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday as Rigalio Tapia, 20, cleaned his .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol in the bedroom of his Carson home, said Sgt. Terry Judge. The boy was pronounced dead at noon Wednesday at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.
Sheriff’s homicide investigators are considering the death accidental, Judge said, but an investigation is continuing to determine if the weapon was registered. No charges have been filed in the incident.
