A fugitive from a 1988 methamphetamine sting was arrested Thursday by U.S. marshals.

Richard Bateman had been indicted in January, 1989, as part of a Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation that closed down 23 methamphetamine labs in San Diego County.

Bateman was one of about 100 people videotaped buying chemicals to make the drug at the Triple Neck Scientific chemical company in Kearny Mesa.

Bateman, 42, was indicted for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute, but he was never arrested, said a deputy U.S. marshal. The deputy said that agents developed information that Bateman was living at 13315 California 67 in Lakeside.

U.S. marshals, accompanied by sheriff’s deputies, surrounded the house about 11 a.m. and arrested Bateman, along with two others, who were arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and methamphetamine equipment.

Authorities said they found several guns and laboratory equipment used to produce the drug inside the house.
