50 Protest Loyola’s Rejection of Gay Club
About 50 students picketed the office of Loyola Marymount University President James N. Loughran Thursday to protest his decision to deny recognition to a club for gay and lesbian students at the Westchester campus.
Gloria Allred, attorney for the head of the Alliance of Gays and Lesbians, said the group is seeking an audience before the university’s Board of Trustees at its March 5 meeting in hope that the body will override the president’s decision.
The demonstration, watched by at least 100 other students, was led by James Munselle, the alliance’s president, and Allred. Loughran was not on campus during the protest, university officials said.
