COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Oxnard Knocks Out Mission, 11-5

Share

Mission College right-hander Vince Ortega was tagged for eight runs--all with two out--in the first inning of an 11-5 loss to Oxnard on Saturday in the Mt. San Antonio College tournament.

Yet he lasted longer than his coach.

Not until the sixth inning, with Mission trailing, 9-4, did Ortega yield to a reliever. In the fifth inning, Mission Coach John Klitsner was ejected for the first time in his career after arguing an interference call that ended a Mission rally.

“I didn’t even use any profanity,” Klitsner said. “But it was a terrible call.”

Mission had scored twice in the inning before Mike Rogers was called out for interfering with Oxnard’s shortstop while sliding into second base.
