Another Try at ‘Good Manners’

Re “Good Manners in the ‘90s” (Feb. 13): I suggest that Sydney Biddle Barrows and Charlotte Ford take the next available taxi back to charm school.
These self-proclaimed etiquette arbiters consider it OK to tell other guests at a dinner party that a guest has AIDS. Could it be that they really have forgotten? The very basis of good manners is respect for the rights and privacy of others. The lack of such consideration for a person with AIDS smacks of a lot of things, none of which is good manners.
