* His Honor: Ronald Reagan received an honorary degree from Tel Aviv University of Israel. The presentation Sunday at the Century Plaza Hotel cited Reagan’s “steadfast friendship for the Jewish people.” Reagan also has been honored by the American Jewish Committee and Hebrew University. In a few weeks, he will be feted by the United Jewish Appeal Drive. Reagan said his alma mater, Eureka College in Illinois, once gave him an honorary degree 25 years after his graduation. “That only aggravated a sense of guilt,” Reagan said. “I always suspected the first degree was honorary.”

* Facing Surgery: Angel Wallenda of the Flying Wallendas is scheduled to undergo her fourth cancer operation in mid-April. Angel, 21, who lost a leg to cancer, has lung cancer. She said of the operation: “If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t . . . I have a lot of faith or an understanding of this world.” She is the wife of Steven Wallenda, 34, nephew of the late patriarch Karl Wallenda. “It really is the end of an era,” Steven said. “I’ll work with my son (Steven II, 3) but he may want to be a lawyer or something.”

* New Calling: Jeb Stuart Magruder, imprisoned for seven months for perjury and destruction of evidence in the Watergate scandal, now enjoys his work as a minister. The former aide to Richard Nixon conducted two funeral services last week in Marion, Ohio. He is a pastor at First Community Church in Columbus, Ohio. “What I can do for those two families is much more than I ever could have done in the White House,” he said. “I can’t change things, but I can help people deal with them.”
