FULLERTON : Fair to Aid Aliens Seeking Amnesty
Volunteers will be available Saturday to help immigrants apply for citizenship under the final phase of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
The city of Fullerton and the Orange County Coalition for Immigrant Rights will hold an Amnesty Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maple Senior Multi-Service Center to help applicants who have already begun the amnesty process, said Eloisa Espinoza, administrator of the center.
The second phase in receiving amnesty includes an application, proof of English-language proficiency, a blood test to show no exposure to the AIDS virus, and passport photos, she said.
Volunteers will provide free help in preparing the application and answering questions about the amnesty requirements, Espinoza said. Applicants can take the AIDS blood test, the Immigration and Naturalization Service’s English proficiency exam and have passport photos taken at the fair. Those services will be offered by various agencies, saving applicants the trouble of visiting each separately, she said.
The fair also will include information on signing up for more English classes, finding low-cost health care and other services, Espinoza said.
