A valentine in the form of a $26.17-million allocation from the State Board of Equalization enriched municipal coffers in February. Anaheim received the largest amount of any city, $3.27 million, or 13% of the total allocated to the county’s cities. However, several cities received amounts that produced higher per-capita amounts than Anaheim’s--Costa Mesa’s $27.49 being the highest.

Orange County’s total share, $27.86 million, was higher than three of the four surrounding counties; Los Angeles received more than twice as much. The Orange County per-capita figure was, however, highest of the five.

Each month city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month, they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter. The amounts listed here comprise the third advance payment for the fourth quarter of 1989.
